Senior Underwriter (Excess Petroleum)

Location: Remote United States. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $93,000–$116,000 USD annual base pay, plus bonus pay.

What you will do

• Review commercial petroleum distribution applications, renewals, and change requests covering propane, heating oil, gas, diesel, residences, and gas stations.
• Accept, decline, or mitigate risks within underwriting authority and refer risks exceeding individual authority.
• Determine appropriate premiums, limits, coverages, and pricing based on risk characteristics.
• Document risk analyses and pricing justifications in accordance with underwriting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Process approved accounts from quotation through policy issuance and provide guidance to clients and producers.
• Collaborate with underwriting teams, share market intelligence, mentor colleagues, and recommend program or process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 5 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting or related insurance experience.
• Experience underwriting commercial excess and surplus policies.
• Strong customer service, collaboration, analytical, and risk assessment skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn industry-specific software.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

Nice to have

• Experience underwriting excess petroleum policies.
• Experience working for a managing general agent.
• Experience with Vertafore, AIM, or ImageRight.
• CPCU or Property & Casualty broker’s license.
