What you will do

• Underwrite complex individual life insurance applications across multiple products, including advanced business, charitable gifting, and estate planning scenarios.
• Evaluate medical and nonmedical history, financial requirements, occupational classes, and legal documentation to assess insurability.
• Make final underwriting decisions for all ages and risk classes within established approval limits and suitability guidelines.
• Support accurate risk selection and fraud detection while partnering with financial associates, medical consultants, legal consultants, and team members.
• Handle sensitive written and verbal communications, including coaching and negotiation with field partners.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters, provide training, manage workflow coverage, and complete quality audits.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of holistic individual life underwriting experience, or health underwriting experience for Disability Income products.
• Experience with underwriting authority of up to $2,000,000 for life insurance or $11,000 in Disability Income participation limits.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 4 years of relevant insurance industry experience.
• Completed or ongoing coursework toward ACS, FLMI, and/or FALU designations.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy, with the ability to interpret medical and financial records.
• Strong communication, decision-making, customer focus, PC skills, and ability to train and mentor others remotely.

Nice to have

• Bilingual Spanish and English skills.
• Experience underwriting foreign nationals or non-U.S. persons.
