Senior IT Field Engineer (Microsoft)

Location: Chicago Metro Area — onsite and field-based, with regular travel between client locations

Salary: $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Provide onsite technical support and infrastructure services across multiple client locations.
• Troubleshoot complex desktop, server, network, cloud, hardware, and connectivity issues.
• Support Microsoft environments including Windows, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
• Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, VPNs, and related network infrastructure.
• Assess root causes independently, implement or recommend solutions, and document technical environments and completed work.
• Communicate technical issues and recommendations with client stakeholders and internal teams, including during client meetings.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in IT support, systems administration, field engineering, network engineering, or a similar technical role.
• Strong experience with Windows desktop and Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft technologies.
• Strong networking fundamentals covering TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and wireless networking.
• Experience troubleshooting firewalls, VPNs, switches, routers, wireless access points, server hardware, storage, virtualization, and network connectivity.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems independently with minimal guidance.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly between client locations throughout the Chicago metro area.

Nice to have

• Aruba networking experience, including switches, access points, Aruba Central, Instant On, or CLI.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, VMware, Hyper-V, IPSec VPNs, SD-WAN, or macOS support.
• Experience with physical network infrastructure, cabling, cable tracing, or an MSP and multi-client IT environment.
