TL;DR
Consultant, Investments and Footnotes Financial Reporting Advisor (GAAP/Statutory Reporting): Preparing and reviewing complex GAAP and statutory financial statements, disclosures, regulatory reports, and related analyses with an accent on insurance accounting, technical reporting requirements, and controllership processes. Focus on coordinating multi-team reporting projects, implementing revised accounting policies and controls, and optimizing financial reporting systems and workflows.

Location: Columbus, Ohio; hybrid role with on-site presence at least two days per week

Salary: $97,000–$180,000 national range; expected starting range of $97,000–$145,000 annually

What you will do

  • Lead the preparation and review of complex GAAP and statutory financial statements, investment and derivative disclosures, supplemental forms, statistical reports, and related journal entries.
  • Analyze quarterly financial results, reporting trends, data integrity, accounting policies, and the impact of proposed regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Coordinate financial close activities, maintain workflow tracking, and support reporting deadlines.
  • Provide audit evidence and respond to inquiries from external auditors, regulators, state departments of insurance, the IRS, and other agencies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, optimize financial and regulatory reporting processes, and support new systems and technology capabilities.
  • Coordinate work across teams, review work completed by less experienced associates and offshore contractors, and support leadership and business partner requests.

Requirements

  • More than five years of public accounting, equivalent industry, or relevant insurance experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and/or statutory accounting, insurance regulatory requirements, complex financial statement preparation, consolidation, taxation, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial reporting, legal, and regulatory requirements and assess their impact on statements, taxes, disclosures, and filings.
  • Strong project management, organization, analytical, decision-making, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with accounting and business operating systems and software, including Oracle/OACS, Hyperion Essbase, and Workiva.
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, finance, insurance, or a related field preferred; CPA, CPCU, IIA, or FLMI designation preferred.
