TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Site Infrastructure) (industrial manufacturing infrastructure): Designing and operating thermal management, industrial plumbing, high-flow gas delivery, and factory monitoring systems for Freeform’s Skyfall autonomous manufacturing platform with an accent on fluid systems, utilities, sensors, and data acquisition. Focus on troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, implementing preventive maintenance, and scaling safe, reliable infrastructure for high-volume production.

Location: Hawthorne, California, United States; full-time onsite presence five days per week is required

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus stock options

What you will do

  • Design and implement infrastructure for the Skyfall next-generation printing system, including chillers, industrial plumbing, and high-flow gas delivery.
  • Develop factory performance monitoring systems using sensors and data acquisition to track utility health, pressure, and flow rates.
  • Oversee power, process water, nitrogen, argon, and other critical utilities in accordance with safety codes.
  • Define preventive maintenance for pumps, compressors, HVAC, and other facilities equipment to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Source specialized fluid-system components and high-pressure fittings for infrastructure projects and facility build-outs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • At least 2 years of facilities engineering, factory engineering, launch/ground systems engineering, or similar experience.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer from first principles.
  • Hands-on ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Ability to work onsite in Hawthorne five days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EHS practices, high-pressure gas safety under NFPA 55, and metal powder handling.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX.
  • Experience scaling automated manufacturing lines or developing high-volume production infrastructure.
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial automation controls, or building management systems.
  • Experience with aerospace ground support, rocket engine test sites, cryogenic systems, facility build-outs, MEP contractors, ITAR, ISO 9001, or metal additive manufacturing.
