TL;DR
Senior Additive Manufacturing Development Engineer (Metal Additive Manufacturing): Developing and scaling advanced printing technology, including machine functionality, print production, automation, and part quality, with an accent on DMLS, print file preparation, DFAM, and cross-functional systems development. Focus on analyzing in-situ and post-print data, improving high-volume production workflows, and taking customer designs from concept through printing, testing, and delivery.

Location: Hawthorne, California; full-time onsite presence five days a week

Salary: $110,000–$200,000 per year, plus stock options

What you will do

  • Develop advanced printing technology, machine functionality, automation projects, print file preparation, and part quality improvements.
  • Drive print production from file preparation and printing through post-processing and quality control.
  • Analyze in-situ data and post-print part quality to support continuous improvement.
  • Define test methods, evaluate solutions, iterate on designs, and provide technical recommendations.
  • Document application requirements, statements of work, standard operating procedures, action items, and next steps.
  • Work with customers on technical capabilities and Design for Additive Manufacturing while contributing to system-level technology development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional additive manufacturing experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience with direct metal laser sintering.
  • Experience with print file preparation, DFAM, and CAD software.
  • Ability to work onsite in Hawthorne five days per week.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Metal additive manufacturing process development experience.
  • Matlab or similar scripting experience for toolpath generation.
  • Customer-facing, mechanical systems design, and strong technical communication experience.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented approach.
