Database Developer (SQL Server & SSIS)

Location: Canberra, ACT; full-time onsite work at the Defence site in Russell, ACT

What you will do

• Develop and support Microsoft SQL Server 2022, T-SQL, SQL database projects, SSIS packages, and Azure DevOps repositories and deployment pipelines.
• Maintain and troubleshoot ETL processes, SSIS deployments, database changes, post-deployment scripts, and reporting environments.
• Develop stored procedures, database triggers, audit logging, SESSION_CONTEXT user attribution, metadata-driven solutions, and repeatable deployment patterns.
• Deploy schema and SSIS changes through Build and Release pipelines across six application and reporting ALM environments.
• Maintain Airflow and PySpark ETL jobs, Apache Iceberg schemas, medallion-zone data flows, and custom platform scheduling.
• Investigate user and stakeholder data issues and remediate defects identified by the Test Manager.

Requirements

• Current AGSVA NV1 security clearance is mandatory.
• Must be based in Canberra and able to work full time onsite at the Defence site in Russell, ACT.
• Strong T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server 2022 development skills, including stored procedures, triggers, post-update scripts, data fixes, and troubleshooting.
• Strong experience developing, deploying, and maintaining SQL Server Integration Services packages.
• Experience with SQL database projects, SSMS schema management, Azure DevOps repositories, Build and Release pipelines, and environment-specific deployments.
• Ability to communicate with varied audiences and work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Airflow and PySpark for ETL workloads.
• Experience with Apache Iceberg schemas, medallion architecture, multiple ALM environments, and custom schedulers.
