TL;DR
User Experience Specialist (Enterprise UX): Designing and modernizing intuitive enterprise applications for government mission-support products with an accent on user research, usability testing, workflow analysis, and accessible interface design. Focus on creating wireframes, prototypes, design standards, and pattern libraries while solving complex usability, adoption, and cross-product consistency challenges.

Location: Washington, DC; hybrid, with two days per week in the office

What you will do

  • Conduct user research, usability testing, heuristic evaluations, and workflow analysis for complex enterprise applications.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, interaction models, personas, journey maps, and workflow diagrams.
  • Establish UX design standards, design systems, and pattern libraries across CIO-supported products.
  • Translate mission, business, and user needs into practical interface requirements and intuitive design concepts.
  • Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, developers, and technical stakeholders to implement feasible and accessible designs.
  • Analyze user feedback, support information, tickets, and behavioral data to improve usability, adoption, training, and onboarding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HCI, UX Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in business analysis, technical analysis, UX design, or a related area.
  • Experience with user research, usability testing, workflow analysis, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction models for complex applications.
  • Knowledge of UX best practices, design standards, accessibility guidelines, enterprise design systems, and cross-product consistency.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain the required government clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience with contextual inquiry, diary studies, or task analysis.
  • Experience creating and maintaining design systems or pattern libraries.
  • Experience designing to Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
  • Experience using analytics and behavioral data to guide UX improvements.
  • Background in change management, user onboarding, training materials, and workflow communications.
