Systems Engineer (Product Definer) - Automotive

Location: Hybrid in Edinburgh, Scotland, or Newbury, England; 2+ days per week in the office. Candidates must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate to the UK before starting.

What you will do

• Lead concept investigations, feasibility studies, competitive technical analysis, laboratory analysis, and teardown investigations.
• Define product architecture and capture system requirements with customers and internal engineering teams.
• Evaluate architectural trade-offs and propose technical solutions aligned with market needs.
• Translate customer needs into engineering requirements and represent the customer in internal decision-making.
• Present product concepts and specifications to customers, represent products at industry conferences, and support global customer engagements requiring approximately 4–6 weeks of travel per year.
• Guide technical direction, product roadmaps, design specifications, verification and validation plans, go-to-market materials, and IC and board-level design reviews.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent, with strong foundational electrical engineering skills.
• Experience working directly with customers and translating market needs into engineering solutions.
• Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and cross-functional influencing skills, including communication with executive leadership.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory-based competitive analysis and teardown investigations.
• Ability to learn new concepts quickly, manage competing priorities, and solve problems logically across functional boundaries.
• Ability to work from commuting distance of the Edinburgh or Newbury office, or relocate to the UK before employment begins.

Nice to have

• Experience in semiconductor product definition, system architecture, or low-power mixed-signal IC design.
• Experience with automotive ICs or electronic systems and direct work with automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
• Knowledge of ISO26262, AEC-Q100, CISPR25, 100BASE-T1, and 10BASE-T1S.
