Senior Engineering Technician (Mechanical Systems)

Location: Hawthorne, California, in the Los Angeles area; full-time onsite presence five days a week

What you will do

• Build, fabricate, assemble, test, and develop critical hardware for advanced metal 3D printing machines.
• Operate lathes, mills, bandsaws, grinders, precision drills, wire EDMs, and other shop equipment.
• Work with additive manufacturing machinery, metal powders, and metal 3D-printed parts.
• Perform planned maintenance and emergency repairs on compressors, water chillers, inert gas systems, and shop equipment.
• Use mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics to troubleshoot systems to component level.
• Organize and improve R&D shop operations, infrastructure, tools, equipment, and safety practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or production.
• Experience in an R&D or custom job shop environment.
• Experience building complex hardware with limited work instructions or blueprints.
• Ability to work full-time onsite in Hawthorne and remain on your feet for extended periods.
• Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs unassisted and climb ladders.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed.

Nice to have

• Manual machining, welding, cutting, fitting, or bending of stainless steel, aluminum, and high-strength nickel alloys.
• Hardware-focused technical training or certification, such as an A&P or NTMA license.
• Experience with power tools, hand tools, cranes, forklifts, heavy equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
• Experience setting up and maintaining air, water, and cryogenic inert gas systems.
