Electrical / Mechanical Engineer (Power & Cooling)

Location: Shrewsbury, UK, with frequent travel across Shrewsbury and surrounding areas. The role includes work at exchange buildings, radio sites, rooftops, outdoors, tower structures, and roadside infrastructure, as well as occasional overnight travel. Participation in a formal out-of-hours on-call framework is required after training.

Salary: Starting salary of £44,800 per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Maintain electrical power and cooling systems supporting BT’s network operations 24/7.
• Work with low- and high-voltage systems, generators, emergency lighting, alarms, UPS, HVAC, and related infrastructure.
• Own designated sites and patches, coordinating repair, provisioning, maintenance, and urgent network activities.
• Identify and report health, safety, environmental, compliance, and design issues.
• Carry out risk assessments and escalate operational risks to senior colleagues and technical support teams.
• Share best practices, coach colleagues, and identify opportunities to improve processes and technical capability.

Requirements

• Electrical competency qualification such as City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 and 2, an equivalent NVQ, or an equivalent industry qualification.
• BTEC Electrical Engineering Level 3, HNC, HND, MOET Level 3, ET Level 3, or equivalent.
• Full UK manual driving licence required.
• Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, crouch, climb, work at floor and ceiling level, lift heavy drums and cables, and distinguish coloured wiring.
• Ability to work across buildings, tower structures, rooftops, and roadside infrastructure.

Nice to have

• 18th Edition or current electrical regulations qualification.
• Inspection, Testing and Verification qualification such as C&G 2392-10.
• Experience with UPS, DC power systems, HVAC refrigeration, F-GAS Category 1, and air-conditioning split systems.
• Coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
