TL;DR
Lead Engineer (Software Architecture/Distributed Systems): Taking technical ownership of complex products and systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure with an accent on scalable architecture, reliability, and hands-on technical leadership. Focus on designing and shipping major engineering initiatives, solving production incidents, mentoring engineers, and improving system quality through observability, security, testing, and automation.
Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid work from the local office at least 3 days per week, with remaining days available remotely

What you will do
- Lead the technical design and execution of major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
- Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Remain hands-on through coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production problem-solving.
- Make architecture decisions and technical trade-offs that balance delivery speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and AI teams to ship high-quality products.
- Mentor engineers, improve development practices and automation, and own systems through monitoring, incident resolution, and continuous reliability improvements.
Requirements
- Significant experience building and shipping production software systems.
- Deep expertise in one or more areas including backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Strong system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale systems.
- Strong coding ability and willingness to remain hands-on with production systems.
- Experience leading major engineering projects or providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineers.
- Strong English communication is required, and candidates must be based in or able to work from Japan for this role.
