TL;DR
Lead Engineer (Fintech): Taking technical ownership of complex financial products and systems with an accent on scalable architecture, hands-on coding, and production reliability. Focus on designing distributed systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure, solving difficult engineering problems, and mentoring engineers while driving initiatives from idea to production.
Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid with at least 3 days per week in the local office

What you will do
- Lead the technical design and execution of major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
- Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Write and review code, prototype solutions, debug complex issues, and solve production problems.
- Make architecture decisions and technical trade-offs balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Set standards for code quality, testing, security, observability, and production reliability.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with engineering, product, design, and AI teams to deliver products.
Requirements
- Significant experience building and shipping production software systems.
- Deep expertise in at least one area such as backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Strong system design, architecture, coding, debugging, and code review skills.
- Experience leading major engineering projects or providing technical leadership to engineers.
- Ability to connect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes and work effectively with ambiguity.
- Strong English communication is required; English is the main working language across global teams.
