TL;DR
Facility Operating Engineer III (Austin) (Critical Facilities): Operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems across Schwab campus facilities with an accent on critical environments, HVAC, electrical distribution, and building automation systems. Focus on responding to urgent incidents, maintaining generators and UPS systems, coordinating vendors, and ensuring reliable facility operations.

Location: Austin, Texas; on-site at the Schwab campus. Candidates must reside in Austin or be willing to relocate at their own expense. The role includes approximately 5% travel to El Paso, TX and occasional travel to other sites, including overnight stays.

Salary: USD $35.58–$52.40 per hour

What you will do

  • Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on generators, air handlers, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, VAVs, FPBs, UPS systems, and water treatment systems.
  • Respond to service requests, work orders, and urgent or critical incidents while minimizing disruption to employees.
  • Use building automation systems and CMMS tools for adjustments, data retrieval, work order administration, documentation, and maintenance records.
  • Conduct daily facility rounds, readings, equipment checks, and inventory management.
  • Oversee vendors during contracted maintenance and repair work and report to the Technical Facility Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and Universal CFC certification.
  • 6+ years of facility operations engineering experience, including 4+ years in critical facilities operations.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical equipment, repair and maintenance, commercial kitchen equipment, BMS, and CMMS systems.
  • Knowledge of critical equipment and systems, including generators, transfer switches, UPS systems, electrical distribution, and one-line drawings.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics and work with small elevated lifts and ladders.
  • Ability to work at heights up to and sometimes exceeding 100 feet, stand and walk for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds and frequently move up to 100 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in Class A commercial buildings.
  • Building Science education focused on electrical or mechanical operations.
  • Trade school or vendor certifications, including York or Trane programs.
  • Electrical or mechanical license.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, and customer service skills.
