[UNION] Mobile Operating Engineer

Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA; travel between assigned properties is required.

Salary: $43.81–$51.54 per hour

What you will do

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boiler, pump, refrigerant, and water systems across assigned commercial properties.
• Perform preventive maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, compressors, motors, pumps, air distribution systems, belts, bearings, and related equipment.
• Monitor gauges, control panels, valves, thermostats, energy management systems, and building operating conditions.
• Inspect engine rooms, fan rooms, electrical rooms, generators, fire pumps, emergency exits, and life safety equipment.
• Complete general property repairs, housekeeping, documentation, reporting, and required safety inspections.
• Respond to emergencies and customer concerns, including fire, evacuation, equipment failure, and other priority situations.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of related experience operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial properties.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems, boilers, heaters, pumps, compressors, refrigerant systems, and water systems.
• Appropriate trade licenses or permits may be required, including electrician, refrigeration, boiler, or steam operator licenses.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record where applicable.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb, stoop, work between properties, and respond to extended or on-call emergency assignments.

Nice to have

• Completion of an apprenticeship program or trade school.
• Rooftop maintenance experience, including heat exchanger and compressor replacement and controls troubleshooting.
• Universal CFC technician certification, depending on local licensing requirements.
• Basic proficiency with Outlook, Excel, and Word.
