R&D Software Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: USA-CA - Promontory E

Annual base salary: USD 143,800–230,000, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale Agentic AI systems, LLM pipelines, and autonomous agents for R&D, product management, and engineering workflows.
• Develop AI-driven capabilities for business case generation, backlog grooming, capacity modeling, and portfolio risk analysis.
• Architect event-driven workflows, operational telemetry engines, executive dashboards, RESTful/gRPC APIs, and scalable data pipelines.
• Integrate AI copilots, CI/CD telemetry, static and dynamic analysis, and self-healing deployment capabilities into developer workflows.
• Lead technical designs, RFCs, architecture reviews, system interfaces, API contracts, and reliability, latency, cost, and privacy benchmarks.
• Drive adoption of AI engineering practices and mentor senior and staff engineers in agentic architectures, prompt and context engineering, graph databases, and resilient system design.

Requirements

• Location: USA-CA - Promontory E
• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of related experience, a master’s degree with 10+ years, or a PhD with 7+ years; a postgraduate degree is typically expected at this level.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building complex distributed backend systems, enterprise platforms, or developer tools.
• 3+ years in a Staff, Principal, or equivalent technical leadership role driving cross-organization architecture initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript/Node.js, with experience in event-driven systems, RESTful/gRPC APIs, and scalable data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience developing, fine-tuning, or deploying Generative AI, Agentic AI, or LLM-based architectures, plus strong knowledge of SPM, Agile delivery, and DevOps toolchains.

Nice to have

• Experience with ValueOps, Lean Portfolio Management, Value Stream Management, OKR tracking, and financial capacity modeling.
• Experience with Neo4j, Pinecone, Milvus, Qdrant, and retrieval-augmented generation optimization.
• Cloud-native platform engineering experience with Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure, serverless architectures, or Terraform.
• Experience customizing Clarity, Rally, ServiceNow SPM, or Planview.
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
