Sr. Software Engineer - Applied AI (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States. hirify.global Flex allows working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $80,000–$215,000.

What you will do

• Evaluate business processes and identify opportunities for AI automation, intelligent workflows, and agent-based systems.
• Architect, build, and deploy applied AI solutions for document intelligence, decision support, intelligent assistants, and other high-value workflows.
• Design agentic workflows that orchestrate tools, APIs, reasoning steps, and business logic at scale.
• Own production services with high standards for scalability, resilience, performance, security, availability, and maintainability.
• Use knowledge graphs to improve reasoning, entity relationships, context retrieval, and multi-step workflows.
• Partner with product, engineering, operations, and analytics teams; mentor engineers and scientists; and guide architecture, experimentation, governance, and monitoring.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering or applied machine learning experience, including 1+ year with Generative AI or LLM-based systems in production.
• Strong Python experience and hands-on experience with modern AI frameworks and APIs, including LangChain, LangGraph, LangSmith, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, OpenAI, or Anthropic.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production AI systems, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation features.
• Strong understanding of agent architectures, workflow orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, knowledge graphs, distributed systems, service design, performance optimization, and reliability engineering.
• Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, and domain experts, mentoring engineers, and delivering measurable business outcomes with AI.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience. At this time, hirify.global will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.

Nice to have

• Experience with domain-tuned LLMs, vector reasoning, specialized retrieval architectures, or complex ontology and knowledge graph design.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.
• Experience deploying AI components in Java ecosystems such as Spring AI, LangChain4j, or Embabel.
• Background in document intelligence, fraud or anomaly detection, AI safety, evaluation frameworks, monitoring, or regulatory compliance.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
