TL;DR
Principal Software Engineer (Sensor, Telemetry & Observability): Building a unified telemetry and observability platform spanning endpoint collection SDKs, cloud ingestion, decoding, and analytics across Windows, macOS, and Linux with an accent on crash-survivable telemetry, resource-constrained collection, structured logging, and privacy governance. Focus on designing performance-sensitive systems, evolving cross-platform platforms without breaking consumers, and leading technical direction across distributed engineering teams.

Location: USA - Remote, OR; hybrid arrangement indicated in the position title

Salary: $195,000–$290,000 per year, plus potential bonuses and equity awards.

Company

CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company developing an AI-native platform that protects organizations by detecting and stopping breaches.

What you will do

  • Own the architecture and technical strategy of a unified telemetry and observability platform from endpoint collection SDKs through cloud ingestion, decoding, and analytics.
  • Design crash-survivable, resource-efficient telemetry collection with priority stream separation and performance-sensitive execution paths.
  • Drive structured logging, type safety, data governance, PII auditability, and privacy compliance for telemetry collected at scale.
  • Evolve the platform without breaking existing consumers and provide technical direction across multiple sensor teams.
  • Design and deliver cross-platform code on endpoints and in the cloud across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Lead, mentor, and raise the technical bar across a distributed engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience architecting production telemetry, observability, or crash-reporting platforms end to end.
  • Strong systems engineering experience with C and C++, including performance-sensitive and resource-constrained design.
  • Experience with structured logging, telemetry data governance, and privacy or PII handling at scale.
  • Experience shipping and evolving platforms without breaking consumers and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Strong debugging skills covering crashes, memory issues, contention, and system performance.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate in a distributed engineering team; experience using AI technologies to improve decision-making, workflows, efficiency, and business outcomes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with lightweight, high-performance systems and OS internals across multiple platforms.
  • OS-level performance and diagnostic instrumentation such as ETW, PMU, or hardware telemetry.
  • Experience with KQL, SQL, Snowflake, data lake and analytics stacks, or Go-based cloud services.
  • Endpoint security knowledge and experience in an Agile, frequently shipping environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible, autonomous work culture with an emphasis on responsible AI adoption, experimentation, and innovation.
  • Health and wellness programs, paid vacation and holidays, and paid parental and adoption leave.
  • Professional development opportunities and employee networking, neighborhood, and volunteer groups.
  • Compensation may include bonuses, equity grants, health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Equal employment opportunity and participation in the E-Verify program.
