Director - AI Harness Engineering

Salary: $150,500–$236,500 annual base pay

What you will do

• Build and evolve the AI harness: agent guides, reusable skills, architectural rules, reference documentation, codemods, feedback loops, guardrails, and shared context.
• Develop automated quality controls, including custom linters, structural and architecture-fitness tests, verification loops, and LLM-as-judge reviewers.
• Own regional AI governance, defining agent authority boundaries, LLM testing infrastructure, and quality, safety, and compliance thresholds for AI-generated output.
• Define cross-organizational QA and quality-gating standards and decide where controls run across the path to production.
• Establish observability and metrics for agent-assisted engineering, including cost per merged pull request, merge time, review velocity, defect escape rate, and agent-pull-request survival rate.
• Manage, coach, and grow a geographically distributed team while partnering with engineering leaders and product management on specifications, acceptance criteria, and delivery roadmaps.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on software engineering experience with large, complex codebases and a focus on architecture, testing, and maintainability.
• Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools.
• Experience building engineering tooling across linters, static analysis, CI/CD pipelines, containerized build and test environments, instrumentation, and observability.
• Knowledge of spec-driven development, context engineering, agent orchestration, fitness functions, developer platforms, and agent instruction conventions such as AGENTS.md.
• Experience with AI governance, LLM testing infrastructure, cross-organizational quality standards, and quality gates for AI-generated artifacts.
• Knowledge of autonomous-agent security, including prompt injection, tool and permission scoping, sandboxed execution, audit trails, and least-privilege guardrails; strong experience managing distributed engineering teams is required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
