Director - Secure Cloud Hosting (AWS/Azure)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid/remote flexibility with periodic travel

What you will do

• Own the multiyear strategy and roadmap for client-facing managed cloud services across AWS and Azure.
• Lead onboarding and ongoing operations for cloud environments, including landing zones, identity, networking, backups, monitoring, performance, and disaster recovery.
• Establish SLO/SLA governance, SRE practices, ITIL 4 processes, 24/7 support models, incident management, and reliability improvements.
• Make Infrastructure as Code the default operating model and set standards for Terraform, Bicep, Pulumi, CloudFormation, CDK, CI/CD, and policy-as-code.
• Direct security, compliance, observability, and FinOps programs covering NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, SOC 2, FedRAMP where applicable, cost governance, and executive reporting.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, vendors, cloud-provider partnerships, executive relationships, QBRs, and organizational change initiatives involving SRE and AI-driven operations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in cloud/platform engineering or operations.
• 5+ years leading multidisciplinary teams in a 24/7 environment, including Staff and Principal Architects.
• Experience driving Infrastructure as Code adoption and automation in regulated or security-sensitive organizations.
• Architectural depth across AWS and Azure, including identity, networking, security, compute, storage, and data protection.
• Strong command of ITIL 4, SRE, cloud governance, landing zones, policy-as-code, security compliance, and FinOps.
• Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, organizational change, team development, and succession-planning skills.

Nice to have

• Experience defining measurable AI use cases for operations, automation, observability, and compliance using technologies such as AWS Bedrock or Azure AI Foundry.
• Understanding of AI governance, model security, and responsible AI practices in regulated environments.
• Familiarity with FedRAMP for government workloads.
