R&D Laboratory Technician (Materials & Building Products)

What you will do

• Prepare exploratory and standard samples of gypsum, insulation, composite substrates, boards, and panels.
• Perform physical and analytical testing according to ASTM, UL, internal test methods, and SOPs.
• Set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and perform basic repairs on laboratory equipment.
• Collect, analyze, and document scientific and engineering data using laboratory instruments and Microsoft Excel.
• Prepare technical summary reports and communicate findings to R&D engineers, scientists, and project stakeholders.
• Manage daily 5S activities, chemical inventory, supplies, audit preparation, and laboratory safety compliance.

Requirements

• Prior laboratory experience is required; co-op and internship experience is acceptable.
• An associate’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or a related scientific field is preferred, or a high school diploma/GED with 3–4 years of dedicated chemical or materials laboratory experience.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, HSE requirements, and chemical handling practices.
• Ability to work hands-on with machinery, hand tools, physical testing apparatus, and analytical laboratory equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with a basic understanding of data analysis and interpretation.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of laboratory work and technical reporting, and collaborate effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience with physical materials characterization and analytical laboratory equipment.
• Exposure to test-method development and technical report writing in an R&D environment.
