TL;DR
Ocotillo Failure Analysis Technician – TEM Prep (Semiconductor Failure Analysis): Preparing precise, site-specific TEM samples and operating FIB/PFIB, SEM, and optical imaging systems for high-volume semiconductor failure analysis with an accent on wafer handling, sample fabrication, and lab execution. Focus on preparing TEM lamellae, performing material analysis, maintaining laboratory tools and processes, and meeting safety and quality requirements in a 12-hour compressed shift.

Location: On-site in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The role requires work on a compressed 12-hour shift schedule.

Annual salary range: $44,230–$85,340 USD for an hourly role.

What you will do

  • Prepare site-specific TEM samples using Dual Beam FIB/PFIB techniques, including site marking, protective material deposition, de-layering, imaging, and TEM lamella preparation.
  • Operate SEM, FIB/PFIB, optical imaging systems, sputter coaters, and spin coaters for sample preparation and material analysis.
  • Handle silicon wafers and pieces and perform coating, pre-treatment, and other sample fabrication processes.
  • Work from schematics, layouts, diagrams, and engineering instructions to complete moderately complex fabrication procedures.
  • Partner with engineers and analysts to meet sample quality and turnaround expectations.
  • Support laboratory safety, tool maintenance, documentation, process improvement, process transfer, and cross-training activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in failure analysis, product testing, or a related field, or an AA/AS degree with no prior professional experience.
  • Experience with electron microscopy, mechanical polishing, or similar analysis techniques through coursework, projects, internships, or hands-on training.
  • Proficiency with tracking and reporting systems for failure analysis cases, basic mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow detailed procedures.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb and remain standing or walking for extended periods occasionally.

Nice to have

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in a related field.
  • Exposure to SEM, FIB, materials characterization, semiconductor processing, or cleanroom environments.
  • Experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or technical environment.
  • Active US Government Security Clearance at Secret level or higher.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to new methodologies.
