Senior Forward Deployed Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: London, United Kingdom; requires up to 30–50% travel.

AWS Forward Deployed Engineering embeds AI engineers and scientists in strategic enterprise customer environments to design, build, and deploy production AI systems.

What you will do

• Lead delivery across multiple customer engagements and FDE pods, including staffing, team structure, engagement models, and delivery cadences.
• Set technical direction and engineering standards for complex customer AI programs and align strategy with adjacent AWS teams.
• Define operational standards, evaluation frameworks, and production-readiness criteria for AI systems across the organization.
• Hire, develop, and retain FDE talent; coach FDE Managers and lead performance management, succession planning, and organizational health.
• Identify portfolio-level opportunities for AI adoption and create accelerators and reusable platforms that reduce time to value.
• Influence AWS product roadmaps through engineering and customer insights and represent the FDE practice to senior leadership and customer C-suite executives.

Requirements

• 10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of engineering organization management experience, including managing managers or large teams.
• 8+ years of leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience defining technical strategy and delivery standards for an engineering organization.
• Experience managing teams across multiple concurrent programs or product lines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working in customer-facing environments.

• Experience managing engineering teams in customer-facing or forward-deployed environments at scale.
• Experience building or leading organizations that deliver production AI or ML platforms.
• Experience developing engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Experience representing engineering to VP or C-suite leadership and influencing product roadmaps.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent; an advanced degree is preferred.
