Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Home based in the UK, with occasional travel to the London office

What you will do

• Build and lead a new engineering pod focused on Employer Experience, including hiring, onboarding, delivery, and technical outcomes.
• Manage engineers across two pods, providing development plans, feedback, performance management, and wellbeing support.
• Establish a clear two-pod operating model with the Tech Lead, including ownership boundaries and escalation paths.
• Partner with Product to ensure work is properly framed before entering development and deliver reliably against commitments.
• Maintain sound architecture, code quality, maintainability, and deliberate technical decision-making.
• Build incident management, engineering practices, and AI-assisted development norms across the pods.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing software engineers, including 1:1s, growth planning, performance management, and difficult conversations.
• Hands-on experience with a modern web stack sufficient to lead design discussions, review code, and contribute meaningfully.
• Experience leading delivery in an agile environment, managing flow, running ceremonies, and shipping reliably.
• Active experience using and leading the adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience hiring and onboarding engineers, with strong written communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Must be home based in the UK and able to travel occasionally to the London office.

• Professional experience with Python, React, or Vue.
• Experience working in pod- or squad-based organisational models.
• Experience building software in a bootstrapped or resource-constrained business.
• Interest in education, apprenticeships, and online learning.
