Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering (AI)

Location: London, UK. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. Travel to customer sites is required as needed, approximately 25–50%.

Annual salary: £1–£1 GBP.

What you will do

• Hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team of Forward Deployed Engineers.
• Provide regular 1:1s, technical mentorship, career development, and team leadership.
• Staff and oversee customer engagements, balancing customer needs, team development, and business priorities.
• Collaborate with account teams and Engagement Managers on pre-sales qualification, scoping, and statements of work.
• Review architectures and code, lead technical discovery, prototype solutions, and debug production issues.
• Build playbooks, starter repositories, integration templates, knowledge bases, OKRs, and operational cadences while translating field insights into product improvements.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, forward deployed engineering, consulting, or a similar technical customer-facing role.
• At least 2 years of people management experience in a services, post-sales, or FDE organization.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineers and building an organization from 0 to 1.
• Experience delivering technical implementations directly with enterprise customers and navigating complex organizational dynamics.
• Strong executive presence, written and verbal communication, and ability to explain technical complexity to diverse audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or relevant professional experience.
