Instructional Systems Designer Internship

Location: Ann Arbor, MI, United States. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance; candidates must be U.S. citizens to qualify for national security eligibility.

What you will do

• Analyze training requirements, learning objectives, and course structures.
• Develop and refine instructional content using instructional systems design principles.
• Create and edit technical documentation, user guides, training materials, and program proposals.
• Review courseware for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and training effectiveness.
• Organize and synthesize training performance and outcomes data.
• Collaborate with product and program teams on AI-enabled training tools and platforms.

Requirements

• Be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in instructional design, education, human factors, technical writing, English, communications, or a related field.
• Have experience in instructional design, content development, training delivery, or a related area.
• Demonstrate strong writing, editing, proofreading, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Be able to translate complex information into clear, structured content.
• Be familiar with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance and meet U.S. citizenship requirements.

Nice to have

• Exposure to ADDIE or similar instructional design frameworks.
• Interest in training science, learning analytics, educational technology, or AI-enabled learning platforms.
• Active-duty military experience or familiarity with military training.
• Experience supporting independent or academic research.
