Product & Regulatory Counsel (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid

Salary: $188,000–$226,000 per year base salary, plus equity and potential sign-on bonus

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting ecosystem for mobility-as-a-service in urban environments.

What you will do

• Lead legal oversight of state and federal requirements for autonomous vehicle testing and deployment.
• Design and implement compliance processes and controls, including internal audits and readiness reviews.
• Prepare, review, and submit reports and filings to agencies including the California Public Utilities Commission, California Department of Motor Vehicles, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
• Prepare for regulator inquiries and represent compliance programs to internal and external stakeholders.
• Support permit applications, regulator engagement, legal interpretations, and state legislation and rulemaking activities.

Requirements

• 6+ years of legal experience focused on regulatory reporting and compliance.
• Juris Doctor degree with strong academic credentials.
• Admission to at least one state bar.
• Strong legal and business judgment, independent problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with an automaker, autonomous driving company, government safety agency, or related law firm.
• Experience advising transportation network companies, ride-hail programs, regulations, or permitting.
• Experience responding to government inquiries or investigations.
• Background in products liability, consumer protection, privacy, or commercial law.
