TL;DR
Engineering Group Manager - Engineering Process CoE (Engineering Process Optimization): Leading the development, deployment, and maintenance of engineering processes, standards, and operational plans with an accent on safety compliance, process standardization, and enterprise efficiency. Focus on managing a team of 15–20 process owners and SMEs, closing audit gaps, reducing process complexity, and driving change across global engineering teams.

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance required at least 3 times a week.

What you will do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 15–20 engineering process owners and subject matter experts.
  • Develop, deploy, maintain, and standardize engineering business processes, operational plans, and documentation.
  • Ensure processes comply with internal and external safety requirements and partner with audit and safety teams to close identified gaps.
  • Drive cross-functional process commonality, reduce complexity, and eliminate proliferation of unique or bespoke tool solutions.
  • Manage team workloads, performance goals, succession planning, hiring, onboarding, training, compensation decisions, and employee development.
  • Communicate policies and safety messages, remove roadblocks, resolve complex issues, and support collaboration with global partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, IT, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 8 years of experience with process optimization tools and methodologies, such as Lean Principles, Kaizen, Business Process Improvement, Value Stream Mapping, or Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate across all organizational levels.
  • High analytical ability for addressing unusual, difficult, and complex problems.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and working with global teams to drive change across regions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future GM immigration sponsorship. Regular motor vehicle operation and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review are also required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree.
  • DFSS certification or equivalent.
  • People leadership experience.
