TL;DR
Engineer, Maintenance Support (Power Systems/Substation Automation): Providing technical engineering support for substation operations, maintenance, and distribution automation projects with an accent on electrical systems, SCADA, communications, and compliance. Focus on designing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting substation equipment, supporting field crews and capital projects, and responding to storms and emergencies.

Location: Hooksett, New Hampshire, United States. Work is performed in offices, substations, construction sites, and field locations around energized electrical equipment. Travel within Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, including occasional overnight travel, is required. Emergency restoration assignments may require work outside normal hours and locations.

Annual salary: $100,490.00–$111,660.00, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

  • Provide day-to-day and emergency technical support for substation operations, including troubleshooting, test-result evaluation, equipment specifications, and solution recommendations.
  • Support New Hampshire distribution automation and other substation operations capital projects through field guidance, design modifications, technical recommendations, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Design, program, test, troubleshoot, and support installation of electrical, electronic, microprocessor-based, and electromechanical systems.
  • Develop technical specifications for substation, SCADA, communication, and automation equipment procurement and maintenance.
  • Complete and document regulatory and compliance maintenance activities, work orders, construction drawings, proposals, and test documentation.
  • Analyze recurring equipment issues, improve maintenance procedures, coordinate training, and support storm restoration and emergency response.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 3 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of power system engineering, transmission and distribution operations, substation automation, field communications, and substation equipment.
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850, communication protocols, routable network design, and network topology.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, procedures, and test documentation; strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and ability to obtain Thermographer Certification.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants requiring immigration-related sponsorship will not be considered.

Nice to have

  • Engineering design experience.
  • Experience with PLC communication and program configuration.
  • Familiarity with NERC Reliability and Cyber Security CIP standards and New Hampshire utility regulatory requirements.
