TL;DR
Principal Avionics Systems and Flight Test Engineer (Avionics): Designing, integrating, and flight-testing complete aircraft avionics and flight control systems for military and special-mission aircraft with an accent on system architecture, certification, and safety analysis. Focus on leading complex avionics projects, developing test applications, executing FAA certification work, and solving undefined technical challenges across fixed- and rotary-wing platforms.

Location: Onsite in Mineral Wells, Texas, United States

Salary: $140,000–$160,000 annually

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and flight-test complete aircraft avionics systems, radios, autopilots, and flight control systems.
  • Review customer requirements and create conceptual system designs and architectures.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives and customer projects, including informal engineering teams and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Perform system and software integration, subsystem analysis, requirements specification, modeling, and performance analysis.
  • Develop and modify testing applications and tools for integration activities and formal flight tests.
  • Lead aircraft configuration development, avionics flight testing, TSO and STC certification projects, and provide technical guidance to lower-level engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems, electrical, mechanical, aerospace, software, computer engineering, or a related engineering discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Typically at least 15 years of related avionics and technical engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of avionics engineering, product requirements, requirements management tools, design and development processes, and relevant industry standards.
  • Knowledge of FAA and other aircraft certification processes, including system safety analysis.
  • Ability to perform engineering work during aircraft flight testing.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to work onsite in Mineral Wells, Texas. Ability to travel domestically and internationally, at times more than 30%, is required.

  • FAA pilot certification.
  • Extensive flight-testing and system safety analysis experience.
