Senior Big Data Engineer – Financial Services

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; hybrid work with up to 3 days remote per week. Candidates must have an existing legal right to work in the European Union.

Work is performed for a financial services client focused on using big data technologies to improve operational efficiency and customer insights.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize big data pipelines with Spark, Hadoop, Hive, and Kafka.
• Build scalable, high-performance data solutions aligned with business goals.
• Manage source code and deployment pipelines using Git, XL Release, and XL Deploy.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimization strategies.
• Apply DevOps practices to improve development workflows and automation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Paris-based counterparts while maintaining clear documentation.

Requirements

• At least 9 years of software engineering experience, including big data technologies in financial or related sectors.
• Strong expertise in Spark, Python, Hadoop, Hive, SQL, Linux, APIs, and Kafka.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, XL Release, and XL Deploy.
• Familiarity with DevOps concepts and scheduling tools such as CTRL-M.
• Fluent English at C1 level or higher.
• Existing legal right to work in the European Union.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of French.
• Certifications in big data or cloud technologies.
• Experience with large-scale data architecture in financial services projects.
