Senior VMware Migration Engineer

Location: Onsite in Irvine, California, USA, 5 days a week

Compensation: Expected rate all-in on C2C or 1099

What you will do

• Assess complex VMware environments, including vCenter inventories, clusters, hosts, resource pools, storage, and VM dependencies.
• Build migration plans with waves, cutover windows, prerequisites, validation criteria, rollback procedures, and go/no-go recommendations.
• Execute migrations using vMotion, Storage vMotion, cross-vCenter vMotion, cold migration, HCX, and replication-based approaches.
• Prepare target clusters, resource pools, datastores, port groups, tagging, and VM policies, then perform post-migration validation and remediation.
• Analyze NSX-T and NSX-V firewall rules, security groups, segments, routing, and micro-segmentation policies for translation into target environments.
• Coordinate with VMware, network, security, and application teams; manage change records, maintenance windows, risks, documentation, and issue resolution.

Requirements

• 8+ years of enterprise virtualization and data center infrastructure experience with deep hands-on VMware expertise.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification required.
• Advanced vSphere knowledge covering vCenter, ESXi, HA/DRS, vDS, vSAN, VMFS/NFS, SAN, and VM lifecycle management.
• Experience with HCX, cross-vCenter vMotion, VMware Converter, replication-based migration, NSX firewall analysis, micro-segmentation, T0/T1 routing, VLANs, overlays, routing, load balancing, and DNS.
• Ability to work onsite in Irvine, California, 5 days per week.

Nice to have

• VCAP Deploy or Design certification.
• Python scripting, experience in PCI, HIPAA, SOC 2, or FedRAMP environments, and familiarity with VMware Cloud on AWS or AWS MGN.
