Server Lead (VMware)

What you will do

• Lead systems administration and maintenance across VMware ESXi, vCenter/vSphere, vSAN, virtual machines, VDI, Windows Server, Linux/RHEL, and Red Hat OpenShift environments.
• Direct server hardware installation, troubleshooting, patching, updates, operational monitoring, and maintenance for secure, highly available 24/7 systems.
• Operate and maintain enterprise backup, recovery, replication, and restoration capabilities using SAN, Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, VMware Replication, NFS, SMB, and related technologies.
• Test recovery procedures, investigate backup failures, verify system integrity, and validate defined RPO/RTO objectives.
• Support disaster-recovery planning, COOP exercises, IT infrastructure reconstitution, and recovery of systems, software, and databases.
• Coordinate server, storage, backup, and recovery activities with government leads, cybersecurity personnel, developers, network staff, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, systems administration, engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Senior systems administration experience in enterprise server, virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, and disaster-recovery operations, including technical leadership in a high-availability environment.
• Advanced VMware ESXi, vCenter/vSphere, vSAN, virtual machine, and enterprise VDI administration experience.
• Strong Windows Server and Linux/RHEL administration skills, plus experience with enterprise SAN/storage, backup, replication, and recovery technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, or comparable enterprise backup platforms, including NFS/SMB and application-aware protection.
• Active SECRET security clearance required. Ability to support maintenance windows and authorized after-hours or on-call mission requirements.

Nice to have

• VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, Cohesity, Dell, or comparable infrastructure certifications.
• Automation and configuration experience with PowerShell, Red Hat Ansible, or equivalent tools.
• Army/DoD infrastructure, STIG implementation, classified systems, or formal disaster-recovery and COOP exercise experience.
• Experience with VMware Aria for Logs, Dell iDRAC, HPE iLO, or similar infrastructure management tools.
