TL;DR
Senior Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Non-Wires Alternative) NWA (Hybrid Schedule) (Power Systems/NWA): Evaluating non-wires alternatives and traditional transmission solutions across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire with an accent on power system studies, benefit-cost analysis, and regulatory filings. Focus on modeling transmission systems, assessing reliability and economic impacts, preparing technical testimony, and developing cost-effective grid planning solutions.

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, United States; hybrid schedule with at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Must be able to work up to five days in the office when required and travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

Annual salary: $129,450–$143,830, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

  • Evaluate non-wires alternatives for transmission projects reviewed by regulators in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
  • Perform benefit-cost analyses comparing traditional transmission investments with distributed energy resources, energy efficiency, demand response, and other alternatives.
  • Lead reliability and economic studies covering voltage, thermal limits, transfer limits, short circuit, stability, and power flow assessments.
  • Develop and maintain production-cost models, benefit-cost analysis tools, and transmission planning models.
  • Prepare technical documentation and testimony for regulatory filings and proceedings.
  • Represent Eversource in regional activities with NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE, internal teams, and industry peers while mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in transmission and/or distribution system planning.
  • Strong knowledge of NPV, benefit-cost analysis, avoided-cost modeling, transmission planning criteria, and power system studies.
  • Experience supporting or providing testimony in regulatory proceedings and communicating with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with power system modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, CYME, PowerWorld, and Synergi.
  • No immigration-related visa sponsorship is available. Must be available for emergency restoration assignments and required travel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with non-wires alternative evaluations or distributed energy resource integration.
  • Knowledge of NWA regulatory frameworks in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
  • Professional Engineer’s license and experience presenting technical findings to regulators and leadership.
