TL;DR
Engineer, Systems Planning (Transmission) (Electrical Power Systems): Developing and maintaining transmission system models and conducting reliability studies for power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients with an accent on transmission planning, asset lifecycle management, and regulatory standards. Focus on solving complex power system issues, designing options to meet delivery objectives, and coordinating regional transmission expansion studies with utilities and ISO-NE.

Location: Hartford, CT or Berlin, CT; hybrid schedule with at least three office days per week and availability to work up to five days onsite when required.

Salary: $100,490.00–$111,660.00 annually, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain transmission system models, including equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, and system topology.
  • Conduct adequacy assessments and reliability studies covering power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients.
  • Identify technical issues and develop transmission planning solutions to meet delivery objectives.
  • Apply transmission planning standards and regulations from federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Represent the company on NEPOOL, NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE transmission planning committees.
  • Collaborate with utilities, ISO-NE planning staff, system planning engineers, asset strategy teams, and operations personnel on regional studies and transmission asset lifecycle plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of directly related experience in transmission system planning, modeling, analysis, or design.
  • Experience with transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, transmission planning standards, reliability criteria, and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and emerging technologies including photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and batteries.
  • Applicants must already have authorization to work in the United States; immigration-related visa sponsorship is not available.
