TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer (Mission Critical) (Substations/Power Systems): Designing and analyzing electrical power systems for mission-critical substations with an accent on protection and control, power system studies, equipment specifications, and project cost estimation. Focus on developing relay settings, performing short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, harmonic, and relay-coordination studies, and troubleshooting field installations.

Location: Fully remote or Lakewood, Colorado; applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Some field work and 10–25% travel may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year, based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

  • Perform detailed design for substation electrical power systems, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring, SCADA, communications, grounding, equipment selection, and cable routing.
  • Prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies such as short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, power factor, and harmonic analysis.
  • Develop protective relay settings and prepare hand checks to validate computer-aided results.
  • Prepare project documents, reports, cost estimates, budget reports, proposals, and engineering studies.
  • Provide field assistance and troubleshooting, and check the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel.
  • Support client communication, project meetings, scheduling, and delivery of quality work within budget and timelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution; an electric power focus is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with power systems and relevant codes and standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and work in office and field environments when required.

Nice to have

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensure.
