TL;DR
Senior Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Power Systems): Conducting transmission and distribution grid studies for integrating large-scale distributed energy resources, renewable generation, battery storage, and data centers across CT, MA, and NH with an accent on power flow, stability, short-circuit, and electromagnetic transient analysis. Focus on validating inverter models, identifying grid constraints, developing mitigation solutions, and leading interconnection studies under evolving IEEE, NERC, FERC, and ISO-NE requirements.

Location: Hybrid schedule with work location options in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Connecticut; based in Manchester, NH, with travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary. Emergency restoration assignments may require work outside normal responsibilities, hours, and location.

Annual salary: $129,450–$143,830, plus potential incentive.

Company

hirify.global operates electric transmission and distribution infrastructure supporting clean energy integration and large-load connectivity.

What you will do

  • Lead power system impact and interconnection studies for utility-scale solar PV, wind, BESS, distributed energy resources, large industrial loads, and data centers ranging from tens to hundreds of megawatts.
  • Perform steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit, voltage stability, thermal loading, transient stability, voltage ride-through, frequency response, and electromagnetic transient studies.
  • Validate inverter-based resource models and analyze compliance with IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, UL 1741 SB, ISO-NE PP5-6, and other applicable standards.
  • Identify grid issues and develop technically sound, cost-effective mitigation solutions, including network upgrades, FACTS devices, and control settings.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for ISOs, transmission owners, distribution utilities, internal stakeholders, and external clients.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to study methodologies, standards, and tools.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in power system engineering and demonstrated power systems analysis experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience with TARA, PSS/E, and PSCAD, plus Python scripting for automation within power system analysis tools.
  • Understanding of power delivery system operation, power system theory, interconnection procedures, and NERC, FERC, IEEE, and state-specific requirements.
  • Experience with interconnection applications for large industrial loads beyond data centers.
  • Professional Engineer’s License is preferred; availability for emergency restoration assignments and regional travel is required.

Nice to have

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineer’s License.

Culture & Benefits

  • Regular full-time employment with a competitive total rewards program.
  • Opportunity to work cross-functionally with utilities, ISO planning staff, transmission owners, and distribution utilities.
