TL;DR
Senior Thermofluids Systems Engineer, Power Conversion (Nuclear): Own system-level thermodynamic modeling of a power conversion architecture that converts reactor heat into electricity with an accent on operating-point definition, fluid-system interfaces, and dynamic plant behavior. Focus on modeling startup, shutdown, transients, and off-nominal conditions, leading performance root-cause analysis, and managing FMEA and architecture trade studies.

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; 100% on-site at the El Segundo headquarters

Salary: $158,000–$219,450 annually, plus equity

Company

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor for rapid-deploy power generation.

What you will do

  • Own thermodynamic performance modeling for the power conversion architecture across design, off-design, startup, shutdown, transient, and off-nominal conditions.
  • Define interface requirements and boundary conditions for fluid systems, pressure equipment, turbomachinery, and power electronics.
  • Drive system architecture trades covering performance, cost, weight, schedule, and safety.
  • Provide dynamic plant models, operating envelopes, and control-relevant data to control systems and reactor modeling teams.
  • Correlate test data with system models, lead root-cause analysis, and optimize cycle and fluid-system architecture.
  • Own system-level FMEA and fluid-subsystem performance risk analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Systems Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in thermodynamic or power-cycle modeling, systems engineering, or performance engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics applied to power-generation cycle design.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, or Python for performance and simulation analysis.
  • Strong first-principles analytical skills and clear communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when necessary and to work fully on-site in El Segundo.

Nice to have

  • Experience with fluid-system architecture, piping, compressors, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Experience supporting control schemes for thermal or power-generation plants.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3, BPVC Section VIII, or BPVC Section III.
  • Experience with turbomachinery, heat-rejection systems, hardware testing, FMEA, or nuclear engineering.

Culture & Benefits

  • Substantial incentive stock plan for full-time employees.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Eight weeks of paid parental leave for all parents, with additional paid pregnancy leave for California employees.
  • Flexible PTO, a remote workday allocation, catered daily lunch, and free snacks and drinks.
  • Company events, team-bonding activities, and an in-person collaborative work environment.
