NOC Engineer I (Fibre-Optic Networks): Providing first-line operational support for dark fibre and optical transport networks with an accent on fault management, service restoration, service turn-up, and customer communications. What you will do
- Provide first-line operational support for dark fibre and optical transport networks in a 24x7 Network Operations Centre.
- Perform fault triage, manage trouble tickets, monitor alarms, investigate incidents, and coordinate service restoration.
- Interpret OTDR traces, analyse optical test results and light levels, and validate end-to-end circuits during service turn-up.
- Coordinate access, cross-connects, patching, and fault investigations with data centre teams, field engineers, suppliers, and remote hands.
- Communicate service status to customers and stakeholders, escalate incidents according to procedures and SLA requirements, and support root cause analysis.
- Maintain ticket records, operational reports, procedures, service acceptance documentation, change activities, and ISO compliance objectives.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in telecommunications, NOC, service assurance, or field engineering operations.
- Understanding of fibre-optic infrastructure, dark fibre services, fibre routing, cable types, splicing concepts, optical loss, and attenuation.
- Knowledge of OTDR testing, optical light-level analysis, DWDM, optical transport technologies, and data centre connectivity.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, administrative, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Salesforce or ServiceNow ticket management systems.
- Customer-focused and proactive approach to service assurance.
Nice to have
- Hands-on fibre splicing experience and experience with OTDR or optical power test equipment.
- Experience in wholesale carrier or ISP environments.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Exposure to network monitoring and alarm management platforms.
