Senior Network Engineer- IP

Location: Ipswich, Birmingham, or London, UK; 3 days a week in the office and 2 days from home

What you will do

• Act as a subject matter expert for IP networking and BT’s fixed network infrastructure, covering design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, monitoring, and support.
• Lead complex, high-impact incidents as the final technical escalation point and conduct blameless post-incident reviews.
• Drive network reliability and operational-efficiency improvements through SRE practices, automation, observability, and toil reduction.
• Lead complex network and infrastructure changes into the live environment using change governance, automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Provide 24/7 operational support for network faults and platform issues, including out-of-hours changes and callouts.
• Manage senior stakeholders, support technical development, and contribute to recruitment and resource strategy.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with IP networking, switching, routing, and/or firewall technologies.
• Deep expertise in incident and change management, complex troubleshooting, technical escalation, and governance.
• Strong knowledge of network technologies, protocols, and end-to-end service journeys.
• Experience with Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, or Palo Alto solutions is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders including the Senior Leadership Team.
• Ability to work from Ipswich, Birmingham, or London with regular office attendance and 24/7 operational support availability.

Nice to have

• Network automation and infrastructure-as-code experience with Ansible, Terraform, or Netconf/YANG.
• Experience applying SRE principles and proficiency in Python or another scripting language.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• Monitoring and observability experience with ELK, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Cloud computing and Linux/Unix administration experience.
