Field Engineer (Telecommunications)

Location: Field based in East Scotland, United Kingdom, with work at offices or customer sites within a reasonable geographic area. The role participates in a 24/7/365 support and maintenance service.

What you will do

• Provide field engineering support for service delivery, network assurance, maintenance, and commissioning activities.
• Support Scottish Power’s strategic telecommunications network across Scotland, including interfaces with SSEN and National Grid networks.
• Respond to network issues and carry out planned maintenance within a 24/7/365 support service.
• Work with project engineers and delivery teams to implement projects while maintaining quality, safety, timelines, budgets, and customer experience.
• Complete technical testing, project documentation, records, and administrative activities accurately and on time.
• Identify risks and dependencies, communicate with customers and stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Experience in telecommunications, networking, field engineering, maintenance, commissioning, or a related technical environment.
• Knowledge of IP networking technologies, including WAN, LAN, routing, switching, and MPLS, or willingness to develop these skills.
• Experience installing, supporting, or maintaining telecommunications infrastructure such as SDH, PDH, Comtel, or Microwave Radio.
• Familiarity with Cisco, Alcatel, or comparable networking equipment.
• Strong organisation, problem-solving, prioritisation, communication, and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and other digital collaboration tools; training will be provided for Scottish Power work authorisations where required.
