Associate Engineer, Distribution Automation (Hybrid Schedule)

Location: Berlin, CT, United States; hybrid schedule with 80% office work and 20% travel throughout the service territory. Travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire is required, including emergency storm assignments and restoration support.

Salary: $82,800–$92,000 annually, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

• Support the planning, design, implementation, and operation of wireless data telecommunications systems for electric utility operations.
• Assist with wireless SCADA communications networks, including digital microwave, mobile and fixed wireless networks, and paging systems.
• Support field construction, maintenance, configuration, and specification of wireless telecom equipment and its interfaces with field RTU devices.
• Analyze wireless SCADA communication data and troubleshoot events affecting distribution-system operations and field-device communications.
• Work with senior engineers, Field Communications, and SCADA support personnel while learning utility communications technologies and operational requirements.
• Follow applicable company, IEEE, IEC, NERC, and other industry and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Zero to three years of experience in wireless SCADA data telecommunications design, implementation, or support.
• Foundational engineering knowledge and willingness to learn wireless communications, networking, SCADA, and electric utility technologies.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate and follow guidance from senior staff.
• Must be available for emergency storm assignments and required travel across MA, CT, and NH.
• Immigration-related visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must already have authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Internship, co-op, academic project, or laboratory experience in engineering, communications, networking, or power systems.
• Understanding of electric utility systems.
• Basic coursework-based knowledge of data, networking, or communications concepts.
• Prior SCADA, DNP 3.0, or utility telecommunications experience.
