Substation Project Engineer (Electrical Engineering)

Location: Remote or in-office in Lakewood, Colorado. Full-time remote candidates are accepted; some field work and 15–25% travel may be required. Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis is required.

Salary: $110,000–$165,000 per year, based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

• Lead portions of multidisciplinary substation projects and manage scope, budget, schedules, and deliverables.
• Develop and review physical substation designs, including layouts, grounding plans, equipment placement, conduits, raceways, and cable trenches.
• Develop one-line and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, cable schedules, I/O lists, and bills of material.
• Perform engineering calculations such as bus and conductor sizing, duty checks, voltage drop, grounding analysis, and station service loading.
• Review equipment specifications, contractor and vendor submittals, and project documents for technical compliance.
• Perform QA/QC reviews, develop technical standards and templates, and mentor junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD, 3D modeling tools, and industry-standard engineering software.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and client-specific standards.
• Strong written, oral, technical communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
• U.S. work authorization for full-time employment is required. FE/PE licensure is preferred; the role requires the ability to lift 25 pounds.
