What you will do

• Lead and oversee physical design drawings for distribution substations operating from 12kV to 69kV, with potential involvement in transmission projects above 69kV.
• Prepare one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, electrical details, grounding, conduit, control cubicle, cable tray, lighting, and lightning protection deliverables.
• Lead AC load, illumination, grounding, and lightning shielding studies.
• Develop bills of materials and incorporate vendor information and client standards into design packages.
• Coordinate with protection and controls, civil and structural, and drafting disciplines; support client meetings, technical discussions, project planning, site visits, and constructability reviews.
• Ensure QA/QC and compliance with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility standards while mentoring junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering with a power focus.
• At least 2 years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.
• Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and MicroStation or similar design tools.
• Knowledge of substation design standards and practices, including IEEE, NESC, and utility specifications.
• Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, work independently, and mentor junior staff.

Nice to have

• Experience leading 3D-modeled substation projects using Autodesk Inventor.
• Familiarity with CDEGS grounding studies and Agi32 illumination software.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
