Controls/SCADA Engineer

Location: Germany, Erlangen; hybrid work from a hirify.global office in Germany. Travel throughout EMEA is required.

What you will do

• Drive project-specific controls, application modes, grid integration, and related system implementation.
• Integrate the hirify.global BESS control system with Transmission System Operator EMS systems by developing logic and control schemes for remote and local operation.
• Work with field engineers to resolve controls-related issues during commissioning and testing.
• Support the development, implementation, and testing of controls applications for utility-scale energy storage products.
• Develop standardized FAT and SAT procedures, execute tests, and participate in hands-on laboratory testing of prototype systems.
• Maintain controls infrastructure documentation, change-control procedures, system backup and recovery strategies, and technical KPI reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer or industrial engineering, focused on automation and controls, or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant controls, software, or programming experience in the power utility or related industry, including power plant design, operation, and maintenance.
• Extensive knowledge of electricity transmission and distribution, grid codes, EMS systems, and grid-service algorithms.
• Experience with SCADA protocols and systems, including IEC 60870, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus, TCP/IP, PLCs, RTUs, SEL RTAC, relays, meters, SCADA gateways, and data concentrators.
• Experience with Linux, Python, shell/bash scripting, GitHub, MathWorks Simulink, and C/C++.
• Fluent English and experience with high-voltage equipment such as inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications, and controllers.
