Engineer, Protection and Controls - D (Hybrid Schedule)

Location: Berlin, Connecticut, United States; hybrid schedule. Travel to operating districts, substations, generation facilities, and other company locations may be required.

Annual salary: $100,490–$111,660, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

• Design new and modified protection and control systems for electric facilities in accordance with established standards.
• Specify materials and develop, calculate, and document protective relay, logic processor, feeder recloser, and switch settings.
• Perform overcurrent and distance coordination studies using fault-simulation software and electric-system models.
• Analyze protection system operations during transmission and distribution disturbances using event records.
• Collaborate with planning, operations, field, substation engineering, project management, and maintenance teams.
• Perform peer design and relay-setting checks and support storm and emergency restoration assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a focus on electric power systems engineering is preferred.
• At least 3 years of related Electrical Engineering experience.
• Experience with protection and control systems, including coordination studies using ASPEN OneLiner or equivalent software.
• Experience with post-event analysis using relay and digital fault recorder event records.
• Experience designing and installing protection and control schemes using IEC 61850 protocol.
