TL;DR
Project Engineering Designer I (Electric Distribution): Designing and coordinating complex overhead and underground electric distribution projects from concept through construction readiness with an accent on permitting, safety, constructability, and cost-effective solutions. Focus on performing field assessments, preparing detailed design deliverables, coordinating stakeholders and contractors, and tracking project budgets and schedules.

Location: East Springfield, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule with at least three office days per week, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Must be able to work up to five days in the office when required and travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

Salary: Starting at $59.61 per hour, progressing according to the union contract.

What you will do

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor design activities for complex overhead and underground electric distribution projects.
  • Develop drawings, calculations, material requirements, and work packages in accordance with company standards.
  • Coordinate engineering, operations, vendors, permitting authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders from concept through construction readiness.
  • Perform field visits and site assessments to verify existing conditions and support accurate designs.
  • Track project budgets, schedules, resources, deliverables, and performance improvements.
  • Represent the company during construction, helping align design intent with field execution and responding to emergent work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a comparable field plus successful completion of TMP, or five years of related experience; alternatively, eight years of combined education and related experience.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, the National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, construction methods, and electric distribution systems.
  • Ability to understand pole loading analysis and interpret or validate results using tools such as Pole Foreman.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required; electrical license preferred.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available. Applicants requiring immigration-related sponsorship to start employment will not be considered.
