TL;DR
District Sr Planning Specialist (Electrical Distribution): Developing and managing electrical distribution and transmission planning projects, including facility designs, power flow studies, cost estimates, and construction plans with an accent on grid reliability, regulatory compliance, and customer design needs. Focus on building distribution system models, assessing long-term grid capacity, coordinating complex projects through construction, and analyzing outages and system performance.

Location: Redlands, California, US; hybrid work with required residence in California. The primary work location is the Redlands Service Center, with up to 20% travel throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 annually.

What you will do

  • Conduct long-term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, and distribution system studies.
  • Develop electrical distribution facility plans, construction options, resource requirements, cost estimates, work orders, and project packages.
  • Manage large technical projects from inception through construction completion, including scope, schedule, budget, policies, rates, and design compliance.
  • Build power flow models, prepare economic analyses, assess system capabilities, and develop short- and long-term distribution plans.
  • Perform field inspections and analyze outages, reliability trends, causes, and durations.
  • Coordinate with customers, internal organizations, agencies, and other stakeholders while providing technical support and mentorship.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in electrical utility distribution or transmission design, line construction, telecommunications design or construction, or engineering.
  • Valid Class C driver's license.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under changing priorities and collaborate across teams.
  • Must work and reside in California unless otherwise noted; hybrid attendance at an SCE facility is required.
  • Successful candidates must complete the required EEI TECH assessment unless prior results qualify for an exemption.

Nice to have

  • Experience with overhead and underground construction methods, scope of work, and method of service.
  • Proficiency with wind and pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, SAP, or equivalent tools.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience handling customer or stakeholder interactions in technical, construction, or utility environments.
