Design Contractor Sr. Planning Specialist (Electrical Utility)

Location: Rialto, California, US. Hybrid work with required attendance at an SCE facility; employees must work and reside in California. The role includes up to 20% travel throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 per year.

What you will do

• Conduct long-term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, power flow studies, and economic analyses.
• Develop electrical distribution plans, identify resources, and prepare cost estimates and construction options.
• Manage large design projects from inception through construction completion, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, rates, and schedules.
• Perform field inspections and verify that distribution planning and development projects comply with approved plans.
• Assess regional distribution system capabilities, reliability targets, planning criteria, and outage trends.
• Coordinate with internal teams, customers, agencies, and other stakeholders while providing training and workload support.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, or telecommunication design; line construction; or an engineering discipline.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
• Experience with work scope, service methods, and overhead or underground construction methods.
• Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under shifting priorities and collaborate across teams.
• Successful candidates must complete the required EEI TECH assessment unless a previous passing result qualifies for an exemption.

Nice to have

• Experience with wind or pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, or related tools such as SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, or SAP.
• Experience preparing work orders, construction plans, or project packages.
• Leadership or mentorship experience and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
