Test Technician (Electrical)

Location: Madison, Connecticut, United States; onsite

Salary: Starting at $43.67 per hour, progressing according to the union contract.

What you will do

• Perform power factor, insulation, breaker timing, cable proof, cable locating, and fault locating tests.
• Perform basic protection relay testing and prescribed tests on underground network protectors.
• Analyze and interpret test results and present findings for review.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and test electrical devices including recloser controls, battery chargers, and voltage regulators.
• Assist with mobile transformer installation and testing, substation modifications, telecommunications testing, and power quality investigations.
• Adjust and repair substation recording and indicating meters and locate sources of radio and television interference.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology; associate degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology; or equivalent education in mathematics and science.
• Valid motor vehicle license.
• Availability for on-call assignments and emergency restoration work outside normal responsibilities, hours, and location.
• Ability to successfully pass the TECH test.

• Knowledge of transmission protection devices, electrical protection principles, relays, computer-controlled systems, networking, and electrical safety codes is desirable.
