Property Claims Underwriter

Location: Hybrid — two days per week in the Colchester or York office and three days working from home

What you will do

• Deliver high-quality customer service while handling new and existing property claims.
• Take claim notifications, communicate with policyholders, brokers, third parties, loss adjusters, and other experts, and identify cases requiring escalation.
• Review and confirm policy coverage positions and negotiate fair, prompt claim settlements.
• Manage claim files, including accurate reserving, indemnity cost control, portfolio management, and clear documentation.
• Meet service-level agreements and performance targets while working autonomously and adapting to each customer.
• Identify improvement opportunities and support innovative solutions within the UK Property Claims team.

Requirements

• Experience in a customer-centric environment.
• Strong customer service, communication, listening, interpersonal, organisational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, collaborate during high-volume periods, and maintain service quality.
• Self-motivated, adaptable, results-driven approach with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to build credible, lasting relationships with colleagues, the wider business, and external partners.

Nice to have

• Progress toward CII qualifications or willingness to begin them.
• Experience in insurance or claims.
• Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Copilot.
